Our novel approach to stop post-operative bleeding after routine angiography is merely the first in a growing product line of tools that can assist care providers to improve the lives under their care.
Over 310 million surgeries6 are estimated to occur annually worldwide, of which about 3 million have problematic bleeding that needs to be managed. To address this critical unmet need, we have developed LifeGel™ Surgical Hemostat a relatively transparent, easy-to-apply gel which has no special storage requirements (i.e., room temperature storage) and is effective at treating bleeding from parenchymal tissue, soft tissue, bone, and vasculature. Not only is LifeGel™ capable of managing a range of bleeding severities across different tissue types, but it will do so with disruptively low cost due to the groundbreaking innovative use of low-cost materials abundant in nature.

Non-compressible internal bleeding, generally in the abdomen, is the largest cost of life in combat for US troops. This is bleeding that is not addressable by direct pressure by either gauze or tourniquet, and that is particularly difficult to treat on the battlefield. In response to a request from the US Military, we are developing LifeFoam™ using our proprietary hydrophobically modified chitosan technology to create a self-expanding injectable biopolymer foam which can be rapidly delivered into a closed cavity to treat internal non-specific hemorrhage.
